Your Deerfield Club of the Rockies made a difference at the Food Bank of the Rockies on April 18.
Once a month the Food Bank welcomes individuals to their warehouse and loads up a grocery cart of food and wheels it out to their car or church van. The day we were there an estimated 450 people were served from 9-11:45 am!
There were all manner of grateful recipients, many originally from eastern Europe, and smiles were plentiful as staples and even a few cupcakes, filled their carts.
Our role was to be paired with a recipient and walk their cart through the "buffet" of options, lots of vegetables especially, and then out to their car. We might have only been "cart pushers" but we could tell we were delivering a lot more than just food...
Thanks again to Cathy Poor '97 and Kam Tang, Paul Garaud '02 and Tina Schweizer, and Lizzie Rosenberger '03 who was in from NYC for the weekend and joined our outing. Old man John Knight '83 helped organize, supervise and advertise...

That was fun!
Denver's Deerfield Reception was such a great time. With over 30 attendees, representing alumni classes from 1942 - 2002, two sets of current parents and even the parent of a freshly deposited recent admit, there was a terrific range of experiences and interests represented.
Hosted by John Knight '83 and his family, the event started with a presentation by Andy Harcourt of the Science Faculty at DA (37 years!). He has been designing and refining a new two-year course called Global Water. The goal of the course, which is sponsored by The College Board, is to design classroom experiences that demand 21st century skills like Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Public Speaking etc. By demanding and measuring these skills, TCB hopes to design its next level of evaluations (to replace Advanced Placement (AP) tests?) to show colleges what these students are actually capable of and not just what facts they remember....
With an area reception typically only once every three years Deerfield thanks you for the turnout! REMEMBER our morning of service at the Food Bank of the Rockies this coming SATURDAY, APRIL 18. Email jgknight83@gmail.com if you can join us!
Here are some of the great Deerfield people in the Denver area:
Dennis and Sandy Lively P95 with Greg Ellenoff '76
Current Parents Steve and Celia Rogers ('13,'15) with Ethan '95 and Kate Lively
Always fun when the yearbook gets pulled out - Hank Lemieux '83 and Tim Graves '89
Charlie Merrill '58 shows off his new Deerfield credit card holder now attached to the back of his phone!
